If you are running the latest version of Linux Mint, you should have found that the default address bar search engine is Yahoo! and not Google. The search bar in Firefox also doesn’t have Google has one of the search engines to choose. You can find search engines like Ask, Duck-Duck-Go, Wikipedia, Yahoo!, but no Google, the search engine that is used by more than 90% of the population.
A quick search about the issue in Mozilla discussion boards might want you to edit some keys and values in about:config, but it doesn’t work. You should have already found out that you can’t find Google Search in the “More search engines..” in the Linux Mint Official site.
One can ofcource completely remove the browser from Linux Mint 17 and download the package from Mozilla’s website, but there needs to be a simpler solution, right? After wasting an awful lot of time searching about the internet I was about to find the solution to the issue.
All you need to do is to install a new add-on called “Google Default.” For some strange reason you can’t find it by searching in Mozilla’s site, so use the following link.
Google Default Add-on for Firefox
Duck-Duck-Go Must Go!
After installing the add-on, you might as well remove all the useless search engines by using the “Manage Search Engine List” option in the search bar.
