Winamp is one of the best music players i have ever used which has loads of features, unlike Windows Media Player. In Google Talk there is this option to show the currently playing music track as status message. This was working in the older versions of Winamp, but when i upgraded my winamp to Winamp 5.5 and tried to show the the currently playing music track as status in Gtalk, Gtalk freezes and stops responding. Winamp was working fine so i tried out it with Windows Media Player, then Gtalk was able to show the status perfectly and it was working fine. But come on, i don’t want to use win media player, really i don’t, neither do i want to use older version of Winamp cos winamp 5.5 is freaking cool. So i found out this solution in Gtalk Help, finally they have solved it Phew. Cos, i have been searching for a solution for quite some time.
Step 1: Go to the root directory of Winamp which is usually in C:\Program Files\Winamp\
Step 2: Select Tools->Folder Options->View (Tab) and uncheck the hide extensions for known file types and click Ok.
Step 3: Now create an empty file (Right click the mouse -> New -> Text document), so the default file would be like “New Text Document.txt”.
Step4: Rename the above file to “winamp.m3u” and save.
Step5: Close Winamp and Google Talk. Now open again and Your Show Current music track status should work.
Cheers

I don’t use Winamp but I use iTunes coz I have an iPod and I don’t always listen to music from my comp. I transfer them to my iPod and then listen to it.
And btw its good that you have made aware of this problem. Its helpful for those who are facing this problem.

Hey… do you also know why gtalk doesn’t show the current music track .( i use itunes)
Gowtham on 20 Oct 2008 at 1:32 am #
@I have never used itunes before, but if the status is not showed in gtalk, then you should check itunes plugins if it has the feature, like how we enable it in windows media player to show tracks in Gtalk!!
