India’s biggest ever gay parade

Indian gay parade
NEW DELHI — Hundreds of gay activists prepared to march in three Indian cities Sunday in the largest display of gay pride in the deeply conservative country where homosexuality is illegal, organizers said.

Gay rights supporters planned to take to the streets of Calcutta, Bangalore and New Delhi with rainbow flags and banners calling for an end to discrimination and pushing for acceptance in a society where intolerance is widespread.

“We are saying for the first time we feel safe enough and strong enough to come out to the streets and say we have our rights and we demand them,” said Lesley Esteves, 32, a gay rights activist who helped organize the New Delhi parade.

While small groups have marched in the eastern city of Calcutta in recent years, Sunday’s events are the first gay pride parades in Bangalore and New Delhi.

The marches come just days before the Delhi High Court is expected to hear arguments about overturning a law against homosexual sex that dates to the British colonial era. The law, which forbids acts “against the order of nature,” carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison.

The law is rarely enforced, but activists say it sanctions discrimination.

“Discrimination is widespread because there is no protection or law or societal understanding,” said Esteves. “There’s discrimination in the workplace, there’s discrimination in the family - it’s on every level.”

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, a senior leader of India’s main Hindu nationalist party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, called homosexuality “unnatural” and said he opposed the gay activists’ march.

“I don’t think it will be accepted in our country. Most of the people are traditional people, religious people and it will not be accepted in Indian culture,” Naqvi said.

Naqvi said BJP supporters would not protest the march because “we are not going to give importance to such behaviour.”

Still, there are signs that homosexuality is becoming more accepted in India, at least in big cities. In New Delhi, gay and lesbian groups hold biweekly movie screenings and parties, and organizers say attendance is rising. Newspaper editorials have called for revisions to the law, and prominent writers and activists have signed petitions expressing their support.

Activists say marginalizing gay people is also a serious health concern because it drives them underground and makes them more likely to engage in unsafe sex.

More than 5 per cent of gay men are infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, compared to 0.36 per cent of the general population, according to statistics compiled by the Ministry of Health. An estimated 2.5 million people in India are infected with HIV.

BPO’s Do Need Engineers ;D

Posted under General

Two days before one of my friend called me and told that we both could attend a interview at SutherLand. So i started from my home 9 am and reached the SutherLand office near Santhome at 9:30 am and waited there for an hour or so until they called me for the 1st round, the general HR, which was quite easy, and which had some expected questions like, tell me about yourself and some other usual questions which are meant to be asked during an interview. After they told that i got selected, they asked whether i want to go for the Microsoft process, i had no idea what they were they talking about, but i said, yes straight away and attended the Technical HR for Microsoft process, i got through, which had some simple questions about windows like, what is system restore and what is ‘regedit’ and some other simple question about windows after that they asked me to talk to this American named Paul over the phone, So i talked with this guy, who was clear with his questions and i think i answered good as well, but they rejected me, may be my accent was not that good, for that guy to understand, but he showed no sigh like that, his replies were like i was very clear to him. I can’t really guess what these people expect.

With a bit of disappointment i went to attend the interview for the DELL process, the interview was pretty easy there as well, which mainly concentrated on testing my communication skills. After this i took the Online Test, it had some simple aptitude questions, basic maths, and of course some questions to test my Language. After which i was offered the Offer Letter, It was nearly 6:30 in the evening. Now i am undergoing the training. If i am going to do bad in this, i would be kicked out.

BPOs Don’t need Engineers

Posted under General & Paranormal & Uncategorized

I know that i am going to have a couple of arrears, in the results which i am awaiting, so i decided to join some call center until i clear my arrears. Yesterday i went to CTS BPO near Perungudi, I went there and submitted my resume, and found out that they are not recruiting B.E, B.Tech, or MCA graduates. It was strange for me, thought that they are having some stupid criteria to attend the interview, so without losing hope, i went to Ajuba in Tidel Park, there they got my resume and asked me to wait, i waited for an hour , only to find out that they are not recruiting Engineering graduates as well. I called up one of my friend who was attending an interview in a BPO near Nungambakkam to ask whether i could go there, but they are not taking up engg graduates there as well. What could be the big reason behind this

WoW Awesome

Posted under Games & wow

Days are gone when Marc used to provoke me with all those great looking screen-shots from WoW. Since WoW is a paid online game and it will take 8 gb of my hard-disk, i was thinking for a while to start playing the game. You can play the game on private servers, but it can’t get worse than that, where the server will be devoid of players and lots of bugs.
Finally a week ago Marc offered me an WoW account, poor guy, he thinks that i am going to pay back his 17$ which he spent on creating the account  Started playing WoW 4 days back, played only a night since i had to leave for Banglore the very morning. Arrived chennai this afternoon have a lot of playing ahead! Have to catch up those who started playing with me.
